Football trips to national leagues

Europe boasts plenty of wonderful leagues for football lovers to lap up. It's a wonderful weekend away, and in many cases a fantastic city break. The English Premier League and the Spanish La Liga are of course hugely popular.

La Liga

The highest level in Spain! Here you can enjoy clubs such as FC Barcelona, Real Madrid and Valencia CF. This league is also known as the Primera Division, with La Liga Santander being the sponsorship name. Twenty clubs competed for first place. Numbers 1 to 4 inclusive qualify for the Champions League, and numbers 5 and 6 qualify for the Europa League. The three clubs that end up at the bottom are relegated.

Serie A

Twenty teams compete in Italy at the highest level. Here you can enjoy teams such as AC Milan, Inter Milan and AS Roma. The four-best teams in Serie A go straight on to the Champions League, and the bottom-three teams are relegated.

Bundesliga

Eighteen teams vie for the title in the German Bundesliga. The bottom-two teams are relegated. The first-four teams immediately qualify for the pool phase of the Champions League. Numbers 5 & 6 play in the European League. The Bundesliga has the highest turnout of fans in any league, with 45,000 on average in the 2011-2012 season. In recent years it has mostly been Borussia Dortmund that dominates here.

Ligue 1

The highest level in France. There are twenty teams vying for the title here. The bottom three are relegated to Ligue 2. The top-three teams qualify for the pool phase of the Champions League. Numbers 1 & 2 immediately qualify for the pool phase. Number 3 still plays in the qualifiers. Number 4 qualifies for the European League. Two French teams are allowed to take part in this. These are the winners of the Coupe de France and the Coupe de la Ligue. If the winners of these two cups in the league have already qualified for European football, numbers 5 and 6 also enter the Europa League. A football trip to PSG (Paris Saint-Germain) has been extraordinarily popular in recent years.

European club leagues

These tournaments are only available to the crème de la crème among top European clubs. The Champions League, the game worth millions, attracts millions of spectators from the world over. This means for many people, a football trip to your favourite international club is a dream come true. The Europa League is the second-highest tournament, and also brings in huge revenues for clubs.

The top prize in football! This is where the best European clubs compete for the cup with the huge handles. The greatest and most important prize possible when it comes to football.

Europa League

It is the second-highest level in terms of clubs. The winner of this tournament then has to compete against the winner of the Champions League. Seeing your favourite team playing live at European level is an amazing experience.

Cup matches

The great thing about cup matches is the fact that smaller clubs get a chance to hold their own against the giants. Time and again every year, major clubs are given a run for their money by the little guys. Aside from the honour to be gained, the majority of final places in these tournaments mean access to the Europa League: making it absolutely worth the effort!

Coppa Italia

This is Italy's oldest cup tournament. The winner immediately gains access to the Europa League. The winner is also able to play the Supercoppa, the match against the national champion.
