Estádio José Alvalade is the Sporting Lisbon Stadium. It is named after the club’s founder, José Alvalade. The initial stadium was inaugurated in 1956 and had a capacity of 40,000 spectators. 

In 2004 Portugal was selected as the host country for UEFA Euro, therefore Sporting Lisbon built a new stadium, to comply with the requirements. The inauguration of the stadium was on August 6, 2003 with a match between Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United, where Cristiano Ronaldo delivered an impressive performance while being just 18 years old. How to get to the Estádio José Alvalade? 

Estádio José Alvalade is located in the Lumiar neighborhood of Lisbon. It is well-connected by public transport, therefore we advise against getting there by car. There are parking spaces around the stadium however they get full easily especially on matchdays. 

By Metro

It is the easiest way to arrive at the stadium. Take the Yellow line (Linha Amarela) in the direction of Odivelas. You get off at the Campo Grande Station. Then the stadium is just a 5-minute walk. Signs are available at the road showing you the way to go. Keep in mind that most people use this method so get there early to avoid crowds. 

By Bus

The following lines can be used to get to the stadium. Lines 701, 738, 750, 767 and get off at the stop at Campo Grande. Also there are two lines that serve as night buses, 206 and 207.

By Taxi

Taxis are also a good way of getting to the stadium. Be sure to set off well in advance on match days, when the highway to the stadium is extremely busy.
