2 – Cristiano Ronaldo
The iconic Portuguese star is set to play in his last ever world cup at the age of 37 and will be sorely missed. Providing over his whole career a variety of skills and tricks to get spectators entertained, he has obtained the ballon d’Or five times, as well as winning five UEFA Champions Leagues. The attitude of Ronaldo continues to be an example despite his old age, he still continues to train with a lot of discipline and takes maximum care of his body and nutrition, which is clear based on his performance level. 3 – Robert Lewandowski
The Polish star first made a name for himself at Borussia Dortmund under Klopp, before moving to arch rivals Bayern Munich and then going on to now play for Barcelona. Aside from being a physical and strong striker he is also known for being a clinical finisher, with many calling him a goal machine. Currently 34 years old, this will surely be his last World Cup and whilst Poland’s chances of success are slim, be sure to watch out for him to score many goals. Currently the top goal scorer in La Liga with 13 goals in 14 games, do not miss out on the opportunity to watch him live at the Camp Nou.
4 – Luis Suarez
It would be hard not to mention the fiery Uruguayan on this list, who at 35 is almost certainly playing his last major International tournament. This hard working and fully committed player always provides plenty of passion on the pitch. He is known for his ability to place the ball through defenders legs and dribble in and out of tight spaces leaving many defenders disorientated and in Liverpool and Barcelona he really made a name for himself. Despite being one of the best football players in the world, he is not short of controversy. Aside from being banned on three separate occasions for biting an opposition player, he was also involved in a handball incident that stopped Ghana from reaching the Semi Finals as he handled the ball on the line. 5 – Manuel Neuer
Having a hugely decorated career and being considered by many as the best goalkeeper in the World, with 36 years of age it is most likely the last World Cup for the German and Bayern Munich legend to compete in. Having already won a world cup against Argentina in Brazil in 2014, he will be determined to finish his international career on a high. Known for his great footwork and technical ability as well as being a sweeper keeper who can play almost like an outfield player, he redefined the expectation of a modern day goalkeeper. 6 – Luka Modric
Being able to watch this midfield maestro play football has been a privilege and despite being 37, the Croatian icon is still in excellent condition. Blessed with incredible vision and creativity and a fantastic range of passing, any team in the world would love to have him. From making a name for himself at Tottenham, to dominating Europe at Real Madrid winning five UEFA Champions Leagues, it has been up to now a simply amazing journey for Luka Modric. Despite only being a small nation with 3.9 million inhabitants, the Croatian team regularly competes well against bigger nations, with a great team spirit and morale. In the last world cup in 2019 they missed out narrowly to France 4-2 in the final, and Modric and his team mates will be keen to seek revenge.
7 – Thiago Silva
Whilst being 38 years old and not at the peak of his powers, the Brazilian veteran central defender is still a top defender with his strong positional awareness, physicality and experience . Playing at the highest level for AC Milan, PSG and currently Chelsea, he has proven that he is able to deal with the hardest strikers in world football in different leagues. Already winning a Champions League and a World Cup, there is no doubt he will want to be part of a Brazillian team who are confident about winning the silverware in Qatar. One of the greatest defenders of this generation is not far away from retirement, so be quick to book a trip to London to see him in action for Chelsea.
